Flue diameter for your pellet stove
Choose your stove, set out the route and see straight away whether ø80 will do or you need ø100 or larger. Calculated to EN 13384-1, at full and at low output.
1. Pellet stove
Take the values from the data sheet or the manual of the stove.
2. Route
Through the wall or into the chimney. Always lay it rising slightly, 3 to 5 %.
From the tee at the bottom to the top.

How we calculate
The calculation follows the European standard EN 13384-1 for one appliance on a flue. It assumes:
- the flue gas data of the stove manufacturer: flow, temperature and required draught at full and at low output;
- a flue that gives the stove enough draught at both outputs, plus 4 Pa for the combustion air taken from the room;
- if the twin wall flue runs through the house: also at least 4 Pa of negative pressure against the room;
- a stainless steel flue with silicone seals (W, moisture resistant): the inner wall at the top must stay above 0 °C;
- a tee with a cap at the bottom (inspection and cleaning), smooth bends of 90° and 45°;
- an existing chimney: stainless steel liner in a masonry flue with a ventilated gap; twin wall: 25 mm insulation;
- the resistance of the cap according to the manufacturers’ data: spark guard zeta 0.16, wind cowl 0.7, rain cap 1.0;
- green only from 1.5 Pa of draught left over; between -1 and 1.5 Pa we call it tight;
- the standard outdoor temperatures of the standard and no unfavourable wind zone around the top.
The result is a guide value for information. It does not replace a calculation for a specific house or an inspection on site. The stove manual and local rules always take precedence. Have the flue installed and checked by a professional. Ventichim only supplies the materials. No rights can be derived from this calculation.
